Postcard campaign launched in Canada on 21st Anniversary of 8888 uprising in Burma

Ottawa - on the occasion of 21st Anniversary of 1988 democracy uprising in Burma, the Canadian Friends of Burma (CFOB) has launched a postcard campaign to garner more support for restoration of democracy in Burma.

The postcard addressed to the Prime Minister of Canada acknowledges Canada’s support for a democratic Burma, especially the stronger economic measures imposed in November, 2007 and the confer of democracy leader Daw Aung San  Suu Kyi with Canadian Honorary Citizenship in May, 2008. It strongly urges the Government of Canada to continue humanitarian assistance to Burmese refugees in neighboring countries and secure the adoption of a UNSC binding resolution on Burma.

It can be viewed at www.cfob.org and can be ordered for the distribution by contacting CFOB office in Ottawa. They will be immediately available in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Whitehorse during Burma VJ public and private screenings.

Upcoming events in conjunction to Burma VJ screenings:

Ottawa – Fri. Aug.7 @6:30pm, Mayfair Theater, 1074 Bank St, (at Sunnyside) - Burmese political dissidents and solidarity activists will be in attendance and handling a Q&A". 

Toronto - Sat Aug 8 @6:00pm, Royal Theater, 608 College (at Clinton St.) - Buddhist monks from Burma, Sri Lanka, Tibet and Cambodia will gather along with Burmese activists and supporters
